Bachelor of Fine Arts

The Writer’s Workshop offers a major leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree, with concentrations in Poetry, Fiction and Creative Nonfiction.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP CORE REQUIREMENTS:


Literature and Theory Core. (9 hrs)

WRWS 1010 Contemporary Writers: In Print In Person                      3

WRWS  Two 4000 Form and Theory                                                   6

Or

WRWS  4000 Form and Theory                                                          3

And                                       

WRWS 3990 Independent Study Internship                                        3


(Two semesters of WRWS 4000 required for core.  Students may enroll a third time in WRWS 4000 for literature credit.  Must be different topics each time.  Prerequisites for WRWS 4000 Form and Theory: ENGL 1150, 1160, one Fundamentals, and one Studio in any genre.)

Foreign Language (8-10 hrs.)

(Minimum of one academic year of the same college level foreign language)  High school equivalent of foreign-language fluency is not acceptable for this requirement.

Lower Level Literature (9 hrs.)

Choose three (3) 2000-level literature courses from any language or discipline offering a course in a primary source of literature;  WRWS Topics courses (2000) included.  Of the 3 courses, at least 1 must be from the following:  ENGL 2310, 2320, 2450, 2460, 2500, 2510, 2520. 

Upper Level Literature (18 hrs.)

Select six (6) 3000-4000 level literature classes from any language or discipline (in consultation with faculty adviser) offering a course in a primary source of literature.  WRWS Topics courses included.
